Peter Jacobsen and Jay Haas should start to get the attention that leaders at a PGA Tour event should get.

Suzy Whaley, who stole the spotlight in the first two rounds of the Greater Hartford Open at Cromwell, Conn., didn’t make the cut Friday, and now all the focus will be on the men who did.

Whaley, a local club pro, was the first woman to qualify for a men’s tour event since Babe Zaharias in 1945.

She had an eight-over-par 78 in the second round at the TPC at River Highlands and finished 36 holes at 13-over 153, 13 strokes off the cut and 23 behind Jacobsen, the leader.

“I wish I could explain to you how it feels to have that many people cheering for you all day long, for two days straight. It’s the most wonderful feeling in the world,” Whaley said.

“So I was a little sad on the last putt. But it was a great, great week.”

Whaley tied for 148th with three others and finished ahead of three others, not counting David Duval, who withdrew after an opening 83.

“I absolutely loved every minute of it,” Whaley said. “It was a pleasure to be here and be a part of it.”

Jacobsen shot a three-under 67 and was one stroke ahead of Haas, the first-round co-leader.

Tom Watson’s bid to win his first major as a senior was upstaged by his playing partner -- and it wasn’t Jack Nicklaus.

The Senior British Open at Turnberry, Scotland, was billed as a rematch of the 1977 British Open, when Watson edged Nicklaus by one stroke at the same Turnberry links.

Only someone forgot to tell Englishman Carl Mason, who shot a bogey-free six-under 64 to take a one stroke lead into the third round at nine-under 131.

Watson added a 67 to his first-round 66 and is tied for third behind D.A. Weibring, who had a 63 for a 10-under 132.

Tom Kite also shot a 67 and is tied with Watson and Bruce Summerhays (65) at 133. Nicklaus shot a 67 and is in a group at three-under 137.

Juli Inkster shot a course-record eight-under 64 and moved into a tie for the lead with Rosie Jones after the third round of the Evian Masters at Evian-les-Bains, France.

Inkster holed a wedge from 67 yards for an eagle on the par-four first hole, and finished with seven birdies and a bogey to move to 14-under 202. Jones, who held a one-stroke lead after two rounds, had a 67.
