Sewage Taints San Clemente Shore

Share

A 1,500-foot stretch of shoreline in San Clemente has been closed to swimmers, surfers and divers because a blocked pipeline caused 270 gallons of raw sewage to spill into the ocean, Orange County health officials said Monday.

The closure at North Beach -- 750 feet in each direction from the Avenida Pico storm drain -- will remain in effect until followup testing indicates that bacteria counts in the water have returned to acceptable levels, officials said.

Water testing is generally performed several times a week. For updated information on beach closures and water quality, call (714) 667-3752 or go online to www.ocbeachinfo.com.
