Norah Jones ‘demos’ to hit stores in July
Norah Jones’ follow-up to her Grammy-dominating debut “Come Away With Me” isn’t expected until early 2004 from Blue Note Records, but a new Jones release will be in stores next month. A collection of six songs she recorded two years ago with jazz guitarist Peter Malick will be released by KOCH Records on July 8.
Jones is said to be unhappy that her name and image will be highlighted on the CD, credited to the Peter Malick Group featuring Norah Jones.
“She recorded this before she signed with the label,” says Zach Hochkeppel, director of marketing at Blue Note. “They were demos she thought would never be released. But at this juncture, probably everything she ever recorded will be released going back to her childhood.
“It would be great if it didn’t come out, but we don’t really care either way.”
Representatives of Malick would not comment except to say that he has fully documented ownership of the material.
