Universal Music Continues Job Cuts
Universal Music Group continued the job cuts at its MCA Records label, ousting interim President Craig Lambert.
The veteran radio promotion executive had supervised the Santa Monica-based label since the abrupt exit five months ago of President Jay Boberg, who left in the wake of the firm’s poor sales last year.
The move comes as Universal is folding MCA into its larger Interscope Geffen A&M; complex.
About 60 MCA label employees have received pink slips, representing about one-third of the workforce, sources said.
In the last three months, the label has quietly notified about 15 acts that they would be dropped from its roster of 80 or so, the sources said. Universal also laid off a few Interscope employees.
Insiders speculate that another round of layoffs will occur across the Universal group before the reorganization is complete.
Representatives for Interscope declined to comment.
