High School Instructor Named Teacher of Year

A veteran English and journalism instructor at Westlake High School has been named Ventura County Teacher of the Year.
County education officials announced Monday that Caron Battaglia, a 24-year employee in the Conejo Valley Unified School District, had been selected.
Battaglia, 50, was told of the award during a surprise ceremony in her classroom. She will now compete in the California State Teachers of the Year program, in which five winners are selected.
