From the gym to the beach, just shootin’ the breeze

This is the other Mark Walberg, the one with the middle initial and no boogie nights. If you’ve watched “Joe Millionaire” or “Temptation Island,” you know Walberg as the cool host navigating hot waters. In the early ‘90s he hosted “Shop ‘Til You Drop.” He’s back for the summer season with “Anything for Love” premiering Monday on Fox.

The routine

My kids get up early every day and take a walk; we call it claiming the day before any one else claims it. I go to the gym to play basketball at the Hollywood YMCA. First time I went there I played with Arsenio Hall and Denzel Washington. I get in there about 8:30 a.m. -- that’s if I don’t stop by Starbucks -- and get my middle-age warmup, then take two Advils and a coffee; I’m ready for work.

Without the kids

Sometimes we get to sneak out without the kids. If the kids come along we may go to a movie.

My favorite theater is the Pacific Stadium Galleria. The last time we went to the Pacific and saw “Bruce Almighty.”

If it’s up to me, I’ll always pick the wild films, but I haven’t been a voting member of this household for years. If there is an extra vote, it’d go to the dog first, then me.

Little League

Saturday morning is Little League baseball and basketball. I coach my son’s Sherman Oaks basketball team. And I go with my daughter sometimes to watch her do ballet at the Santa Clarita Ballet Academy.

With my son, I can help him with a fast ball, but with her I’ve just got to watch. My wife was an acrobat and dancer, so they come by it naturally. We’ve got a crazy little crowd.

Zoom to Zuma

Sunday I may take the kids to Zuma or to Manhattan Beach. Manhattan’s nice. It’s a classic California beach.

I park at a friend’s house and walk down and play volleyball or go swimming. Either that or we go down to Santa Monica pier to the original Muscle Beach.

Eats and treats

We’ll eat Chinese from anywhere, but my wife’s a little pickier. She likes to eat at Real Food Daily on La Cienega.

Me? I could eat at Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles three days a week. I don’t even go to eat the waffles and all of that.

I’m just trailer-park trash and I like greens and cornbread. So three times a week, I get Roscoe’s J-special from Ms. Tony: three wings, greens and cornbread.

Into the pool

After softball, I like to just hang out by the pool -- anybody’s pool, I’m not proud.

Real special

Other than that, a good basketball game, hanging out at the beach in Santa Monica, taking maybe a hike around Runyon Canyon with my wife.

You know the best part of a weekend?

Sunday night, when the sun is setting, the kids are still playing in the twilight and a few good friends join me, just sitting outside, smoking a good cigar, drinking a little scotch -- just sitting there talking.
