‘Gilmore’ spinoff grounded
The “Gilmore Girls” spinoff planned for the WB’s midseason slate has come unspun.
Executives for the network and Warner Bros. Television, the producers of the announced series, said the cost of filming the drama almost entirely on location in the beach community of Venice was prohibitive.
The series was to have revolved around “Gilmore” character Jess Mariano (Milo Ventimiglia) and his reunion with his estranged father (Rob Estes) in Venice. The producers felt it wouldn’t work if it wasn’t shot on location.
Ventimiglia will continue with “Gilmore Girls,” which is filmed on sound stages at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank.
