Executive Interview Process Stalls
Orange County supervisors had planned for weeks to collectively sit down Thursday with candidates for the county executive job.
But because someone forgot to properly post notice of the meeting on a bulletin board, interviews with two candidates -- one from Texas, the other from Northern California -- were conducted among supervisors individually and in pairs; a third finalist decided not to participate in the interview process at all.
Officials are now scrambling to reschedule the interviews before the full Board of Supervisors -- and this time to give the legally required notice of a public meeting, which was lacking Thursday. The three finalists have not been identified.
Board Chairman Tom Wilson said the board will discuss the informal interviews Tuesday and decide what to do next.
Supervisor Chris Norby said he’d like to cast a wider net for applicants. “I would say hopefully we have more to select from than two,” he said.
About 60 people applied for Orange County’s top executive post after supervisors in February fired Michael Schumacher.
