Miramax buys rights to ‘Pippin’
Miramax has musical fever. Two days after announcing that it planned to remake the 1958 Broadway hit “Damn Yankees,” the film company that won an Oscar for “Chicago” said Thursday it has obtained the film rights to “Pippin,” which opened on Broadway in 1972.
Like “Chicago,” it was directed by the late Bob Fosse. The show concerns the search for a rewarding life by Pippin, son of Holy Roman Empire ruler Charlemagne.

“Damn Yankees” -- A Quick Takes item in Friday’s Calendar mistakenly referred to the musical “Damn Yankees” as having been a Broadway hit in 1958. It opened in 1955.
Miramax also is planning a remake of “Guys and Dolls.”
