Doing things differently

This award-winning architect-designer is the studio director for Kirkpatrick & Associates Architects Virtual Design Co. Her group makes 3-D models -- gearless, wireless, six-sided projections with sound -- think holographic theater, think the hollow deck of “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” Think that sounds impressive? It is. But it doesn’t stop there -- she’s a fashion designer in her spare time.

Spice of variety

I don’t have an average weekend. I like to do something different than the weekend before. I do like to combine relaxing and making sure I’m accomplishing something on the weekends.

I enjoy golf. I get off at 12:30 p.m. and play a round of golf some Friday afternoons. You get to meet a lot of people that way. I’m not that good at it, but it’s a fun time and very competitive, in a good way.

I might take time some time during the weekend to take a look at houses that are under construction. We have so many projects that I couldn’t possibly see them all. But it’s fun to see the results of some of your work coming together.

Fashion next

Fashion design is one of my interests -- my father is a fashion designer. He started like me, studied architecture, then changed to fashion. I don’t know whether unconsciously I became interested in fashion because of him, but I take it seriously. My first collection is coming out next spring -- a haute couture fall-winter collection.

Snow and ice

I enjoy snowboarding a lot. Some weekends I leave on Friday and fly to Salt Lake City to meet friends and go snowboarding in Park City. Then I come back early Monday morning. That’s very relaxing to me.

I love figure skating too. I started when I was 4 and was on the Canadian national team for 17 years. So I’ll take some of the people I work with to a rink in Culver City -- the Ice Castle. But I really love to skate on the rink at Lake Arrowhead. It’s open air on three sides, and it’s wonderful to skate outside.

I enjoy doing things just for fun. I play tennis, Roller-blade and mountain bike -- I have two bikes -- in the Santa Monica Mountains. Every once in a while I’ll do yoga. And something I love to do is to go out to Joshua Tree to camp with friends. I’ve got a good circle of friends.

On screen

I do love going to see movies with friends -- especially independent movies. So the Sundance Film Festival is something I really enjoy; I’ve been several times. In town, I enjoy seeing movies at the Grove, the Beverly Center or somewhere around Santa Monica. The last movie that I saw was “My Big Fat Greek Wedding.”

In the kitchen

I love to cook at home or go out to a friend’s house and cook together -- my specialty is anything with meat and a little bit offbeat. Actually I like anything except Brussels sprouts. I love going to Whole Foods and looking at all the food, buying good cheeses, good wine.

French style

My absolute dream weekend would really break the routine. I’d go to France, somewhere on the French Riviera -- wine and dine and enjoy the sea.
