Ford Motor Co. was cleared of responsibility by a jury in a case in which a California woman claimed the cruise control on her Ford Taurus malfunctioned.

Plaintiff Carolyn Watts said an electrical charge activated the cruise control after she shifted into reverse.

The car accelerated out of her driveway, across the street and into a house, permanently damaging one of her legs. Ford said the car’s acceleration was caused by driver error. Her attorney said Watts will appeal.
