Spy Boyce Is Released From Federal Custody
Christopher Boyce, whose Cold War spying was immortalized on film in “The Falcon and the Snowman,” has been released after more than a quarter-century in federal custody.
Boyce was released from a halfway house in the Tenderloin district about 4 a.m. Friday, according to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons. He will be on parole until 2046, his original release date.
Boyce was 22 when his former FBI agent father helped him get a summer job as a clerk at TRW Inc. in Redondo Beach, where he had access to the “Black Vault” and classified CIA communications. He smuggled documents home and sold them to the Russian Embassy in Mexico City. Boyce’s courier was childhood friend Andrew Daulton Lee.
