A Superior Court judge in Washington approved a $55-million settlement in a class-action lawsuit filed against Santa Ana-based Behr Process Corp. over wood sealants that plaintiffs said allowed mildew damage to decks and homes.

The settlement covers customers in western Washington state who bought Super Liquid Rawhide or Natural Seal Plus wood sealants after May 1992. As many as 5,000 consumers in 19 counties may be eligible, said Michael Withey, the attorney pressing the case.

The company did not admit liability or wrongdoing in the settlement and Behr no longer makes the two products specified in the lawsuit.
