From Times Staff and Wire Reports
A troubled tobacco farmer who tied up traffic for three days in the nation’s capital appeared in court, denying the accuracy of some of the charges against him and seeking to represent himself.
Dwight Ware Watson had claimed to have placed explosives around Washington and Richmond, Va. None were found.
He hoped to publicize how government policies affect tobacco farmers.
U.S. Magistrate Judge John M. Facciola ordered a mental evaluation after Watson said he wanted to represent himself.
