Providence Gets Past Charleston, 69-64

Rob Sanders scored a career-high 20 points and Ryan Gomes had 19 to lead Providence past College of Charleston, 69-64, in a first-round National Invitation Tournament game Saturday night at Providence, R.I.

The Friars (18-13) will play host to Georgetown (16-14) in the second round Monday night.

Tony Mitchell scored 13 points to lead the Cougars (25-8). Sanders and Gomes combined to make 18 of 25 shots from the field and they teamed for 15 rebounds.

WOMEN’S NAIA TOURNAMENT

Vanguard 61, Oklahoma Christian 60 -- Robbin Dittenbir’s layup with eight seconds left lifted the Lions (28-9) past the Eagles (21-12) in a quarterfinal game at Jackson, Tenn.

The Lions advanced for the first time to the national semifinals, where they will face Southern Nazarene, Okla., on Monday night.

Kimya Murray of Oklahoma Christian led all scorers with 21 points.

Southern Nazarene (Okla.) 74, Point Loma Nazarene 61 -- The Crimson Storm (27-9) scored the first 17 points of the game and never trailed against the Crusaders (27-9).

Zaneta Drungilaite scored 13 points to lead the Crusaders, who cut the lead to nine points twice in the second half, but Southern Nazarene made 11 of 12 free throws to clinch the win.
