Activities to mark Oxnard’s centennial include an insightful exhibit of street photography by Jess Gutierrez. “100 Images of Oxnard’s Latino Lifestyle & Culture” was culled from thousands of black-and-white and color shots Guiterrez has collected from more than 30 years of photographing events such as weddings, quinceaneras, low-rider car clubs, zoot-suit fashions, folklorico performances, farm-worker rights protests and more.

Cetacean celebration

Coinciding with the Pacific gray whale’s annual migratory journey, the Santa Barbara Whale Festival will offer two days of cetacean appreciation. Set up along lower State Street will be marine education booths promoting awareness about issues affecting whales, dolphins, porpoises and the ocean. Entertainment-wise: live bands, arts and crafts, marine artists, food, Coast Guard rescue and diving demonstrations and a children’s carnival.
