Taste isn’t one of the bonus features in this gross-out fest

Jackass: The Movie

Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O

Paramount; $15, VHS; $30, DVD

If the sight of a guy in a jockstrap walking a tightrope across a pond of hungry alligators with a piece of chicken hanging from his backside to entice the gators is your definition of great comedy, then by all means check out this full-length, R-rated version of the popular MTV gross-out stunt series. If you enjoy your comedy with a bit more class and a lot less crass, then avoid this box office hit at all costs.

The DVD features five hours of bonus material, including 27 more minutes of nauseating, stupid stunts not featured in the film. There are also some pretty gross outtakes, an MTV “making of” documentary, two music videos, a trailer, talent files, and a photo and poster gallery.

One of the audio tracks features commentary from the “Jackass” cast, which is not for the faint of heart. The second features Knoxville, director Jeff Tremaine and cinematographer Dimitry Elyaskhevich.

Friday After Next

Ice Cube, Mike Epps

New Line, $28

*

Taste and laughs are also scarce in this third entry in Ice Cube’s popular “Friday” series of comedies that follows the misadventures of a South-Central L.A. resident named Craig and his idiotic cousin Day-Day. In this installment, Craig and Day-Day’s apartment is robbed on Christmas Eve by a man dressed in a Santa suit. The same day, the two start their jobs as security officers at a strip mall that features a doughnut shop overrun by flies, their family’s BBQ restaurant and a clothing store for pimps.

The DVD has a whole week’s worth of extras, including a trivia subtitle track; a fun documentary on stand-up comics breaking into movies; a look at the creation of the “Friday” franchise back in 1995; short documentaries on both the costume and production design; a music video; deleted scenes with commentary from director Marcus Raboy; a funny documentary on authentic BBQ around the country; a gag reel; a standard production featurette; commentary from several of the stars; and decent commentary from Raboy, producer Matt Alvarez and Ice Cube.

C.S.I.: Crime Scene Investigation -- The Complete First Season

William Petersen,

Marg Helgenberger

Paramount, $90

TV’s top-rated series -- a slick, entertaining whodunit -- enters the digital age with this collection of all 23 episodes from the first season of the CBS drama. The film-to-digital transfer looks great, but this set could have been a lot better. Why aren’t there any audio commentary tracks with the producers or stars? Or even the production designers? The paltry extras include a music video, profiles of the characters and a short but interesting behind-the-scenes documentary titled “People Lie ... but Evidence Does Not.”

Ghost Ship

Gabriel Byrne, Julianna Margulies

Warner Bros., $28

Byrne has starred in several acclaimed films and is a Tony-nominated Broadway actor. Margulies is an Emmy Award-winning actress who came to fame as Nurse Hathaway on “ER.” Ron Eldard, Margulies’ real-life partner, is also an exceptional actor who scored high marks on Broadway in the recent revival of “Death of a Salesman.” So why did they all sign on to star in this claptrap of a horror film? Despite the sharp opening and a few decent scares here and there, this tale of a salvage tug that comes across a mysterious old ocean liner sinks like a stone.
