Student Punishment Doesn’t Fit the ‘Crime’

Re “Pupil Who Turned In Knife Is Put on Probation; Dad Vows to Fight It” (May 1), on the student being put on probation for weapons-related offenses: When will this madness/stupidity stop? When will adults start acting like adults? By hiding behind the (transparent) wall of “rules are rules,” the administrators of the elementary school in Stanton are showing they are as gutless and incompetent as all the other administrators in other school districts who will not, for example, let kids keep their asthma medication with them (no drugs at school).

Last I checked, life is not black and white. But if we create a black-and-white world, I fear greatly what kind of leaders these kids will grow up to be. What or who will be their guide for learning how to think?
