Former Fighters Kidnap Governor

Former paramilitary fighters burned down municipal buildings and took a provincial governor hostage in rural Guatemala, demanding to be paid for fighting alongside the army during the country’s 1960-96 civil war.
About 1,000 protesters converged on the town of San Francisco Zapotitlan, demanding to see the governor after their names were not on a list to receive payments.
