Zoning Change Will Limit Housing Project
Following public debate over plans to annex land near Dos Vientos, Thousand Oaks officials decided only to adjust the land-use designation within the city’s planning area and leave the remaining acreage under county jurisdiction.
A split City Council voted Tuesday night to change the zoning on 170 acres of Rancho Potrero’s 326 acres, effectively preventing housing development.
Portions of the site allowed for the construction of more than 200 houses.
The 170-acre tract, along with 107 acres of adjacent federal land, will now be listed in the city’s General Plan as existing parks, golf courses and open space.
The designation protects the land so that it cannot be changed without a public vote.
