Fontana Police Arrest 6, Seize Drugs, $150,000

Police said they arrested six people and seized an estimated 20 pounds of cocaine, methamphetamine manufacturing equipment and more than $150,000 in cash from a Fontana home this week.

Acting on a tip two weeks ago, detectives first made two traffic stops of vehicles connected to the investigation Tuesday.

Fidel Castro, 23, was driving a vehicle that allegedly contained several gallons of chemicals used to make methamphetamine. He was arrested and found to be wanted on a warrant for attempted murder, Fontana Police Sgt. Doug Imhof said.

Ramon Fernandez, who was driving another vehicle, was arrested on suspicion of transporting 16 pounds of cocaine, police said.

Detectives then went to a home in the 16700 block of Ash Street, where they discovered the cash. The homeowners, Alejandro Gomez, 29, and his wife, Hilda, 29, have been charged with felony possession of drugs for sale and felony possession of a drug lab, Imhof said.

Imhof said police made two other arrests at the home: Caesar Nunez of La Puente, an escapee from a Los Angeles County jail who was wanted for carjacking and kidnapping, and Kevin Goodwin, who was arrested on suspicion of violating parole.

“I was surprised at all the money in the house,” Imhof said. “My guess is that it was drug payments being saved to take wherever it belonged -- we believe Mexico.”
