Rapper Dr. Dre’s Mom Accused of Gun Assault
The mother of Andre Young, better known as the rapper and record producer Dr. Dre, was arrested by sheriff’s deputies after she allegedly fired a gun at a male friend in her West Valley home this week.
Verna Griffin, 54, was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon Monday evening, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Capt. Tom Martin said.
The shooting occurred between 7 and 8 p.m. in the 5300 block of Newcastle Lane, in the Mountain Gate Estates near Agoura Hills, Martin said.
Dre owns the home, according to public records, but doesn’t live there.
When sheriff’s deputies arrived, Martin said, Griffin had left.
Her car was found at a nearby gas station, and a handgun was inside, he said.
On Tuesday, deputies accompanied the alleged victim, who wasn’t injured, back to the home to recover some of his possessions and found Griffin and her attorney there, Martin said. Griffin was arrested at 11:15 a.m. and released three hours later on $50,000 bail, records show.
