Teen Returning From Prom Dies in Crash Into Bus
The car of an 18-year-old student returning home from his prom slammed head-on into an MTA bus early Saturday, killing him and injuring five people on the bus, authorities said.
Westley Williams, a student at Washington High School, had just dropped off his girlfriend and was driving east on Florence Avenue near Western Avenue about 8 a.m. when his car hit the bus, which was stopped, facing west on Florence, said LAPD Officer Don Cox.
“He possibly fell asleep at the wheel,” Cox said of Williams, who died at the scene. None of the other injuries, including the bus driver’s, was serious, he said.
