From Times staff reports
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted Wednesday to purchase a $14.5-million helicopter to provide trauma service to the Antelope Valley.
The desert community north of Los Angeles has no trauma hospitals, and helicopters for trauma patients are available only during daylight.
The money is expected to come from Measure B, a voter-approved property tax passed in 2002 to help pay for emergency and trauma care services.
