SBC to Close Some Offices, Cut Workforce

SBC Communications Inc. said it would cut expenses by $1.3 billion a year by 2006 to counter declines in local-phone revenue.
The savings would come from reducing SBC’s workforce, in part by closing one-third of its 200 call centers, the company said. SBC said it expected revenue to grow by the end of next year.
