Fredrik Modin scored twice to help the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Washington Capitals, 5-2, on Friday night, ending an 11-game regular-season losing streak in Washington.

“We felt this was an important game for us ... just to see the type of response we have in what we felt were a lackluster couple of games,” Tampa Bay Coach John Tortorella said. “We lost our identity in our first two games of our trip. We grabbed it back tonight.”

The Lightning, which leads the Southeast Division, tied Carolina and lost to Florida while scoring only one goal in those games.
