Concorde’s Nose Fetches $554,000 at Auction
The sleek needle nose of a supersonic Concorde jet was sold to an anonymous buyer for nearly $554,000 at a Paris auction, 30 times the price it had been expected to fetch, Christie’s auction house said.
More than 200 Concorde souvenirs, from the plane’s instruction manual to its engine, were up for grabs. Proceeds will go to the Air France foundation, a charity for underprivileged children.
The Concorde was retired by Air France and British Airways this year as operational costs escalated after an Air France Concorde crashed in July 2000, killing 113 people.
