Port Commissioner to Seek Election as Mayor
From Times Wire Reports
Port Commissioner Peter Q. Davis has formally declared his candidacy for mayor, promising to make his top priority increased funding for the city’s fire and police departments.
Davis, 63, will challenge Mayor Dick Murphy, whom he has criticized as being a weak leader.
Murphy is running for a second term despite initially announcing that he would not seek re-election. Supporters, led by several civic and business leaders, persuaded him to run again.
