Salk Institute Receives Gift of $30 Million
The Salk Institute for Biological Studies announced Tuesday that it had received a $30-million donation, the largest single gift in its 43-year history.
Dr. Richard Murphy, president and chief executive of the Salk Institute, said the gift would help the institute broaden its research and attract new faculty. Officials declined to identify the benefactor.
The institute, located in La Jolla, is studying the causes and possible cures for Alzheimer’s disease, AIDS, obesity, heart disease, diabetes and other life-threatening conditions.
