Mobs Kill at Least 19 Hindi Speakers

Soldiers patrolled India’s northeastern state of Assam after mobs killed at least 19 Hindi speakers from a neighboring state in escalating ethnic violence, police said.

In one incident, a group of up to 15 people attacked and killed four traders from Bihar state in the town of Bongaigaon, police said. A day earlier, at least 15 people died when Assamese attacked Hindi-speaking settlers from Bihar state, police said.
