COLOMBIA

The Colombian rebel group known as the National Liberation Army freed two European hostages, Reinhilt Weigel of Germany and Asier Huegen Echeverria of Spain, after 74 days.

But the outcome was tragic in another kidnapping case, with the army saying soldiers had recovered a body believed to be that of Japanese businessman Chikao Muramatsu. He had been abducted by common criminals nearly three years ago and turned over to the rebel group Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC.
