Orange May Veto Housing Project
The Orange City Council will vote today whether to rescind its approval of a housing project after opponents gathered enough signatures to force a referendum on the issue.
Critics of the 177-home development by Fieldstone Communities Inc. in an old sand-and-gravel field say the site should remain open space. The site is in a potential flood area and next to the closed Villa Park Landfill, which emits methane gas.
If the city decides to let its approval stand, it must schedule a vote for next year. It would be the first referendum in Orange’s history.
