No. 2 Texas Pulls Away From UCLA

Freshman Tiffany Jackson had 19 points and 12 rebounds in her home debut, leading No. 2 Texas to an 89-58 victory over UCLA on Tuesday night at Austin, Texas.

Jamie Carey scored 16 points as the Longhorns, who improved to 3-0, ran their home winning streak to 21. Texas shot 57% from the field.

Lisa Willis scored 17 points for the Bruins (1-1), making five of UCLA’s nine three-point baskets.

A Final Four team last season, Texas led only 37-35 at halftime despite its stellar shooting because UCLA kept pace by making its outside shots.

Gennifer Arranaga’s three-pointer sparked a 12-2 UCLA run that closed the first half.

But Texas pulled away with a 19-7 burst to start the second half. Carey and Heather Schreiber made three-point shots, and Jackson scored five points as the Longhorns took control.

No. 1 Connecticut 81, Florida State 53 -- Diana Taurasi scored 27 of her 31 points in the first half as the Huskies (2-0) defeated the Seminoles (1-1) at Hartford, Conn. The 27 first-half points were a personal best for Taurasi.

No. 6 Stanford 75, San Francisco 50 -- Nicole Powell scored 28 points at Palo Alto and the Cardinal (3-0) extended its winning streak against the Dons (1-1) to 12 games.

Old Dominion 75, No. 7 Penn State 68 -- Monique Coker had 26 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Monarchs (2-2) to an upset of the Nittany Lions (1-1) at Norfolk, Va.

No. 8 Purdue 88, Wisconsin Milwaukee 60 -- Shereka Wright and Katie Gearlds had 17 points apiece to lead the Boilermakers (2-1) over the Panthers (1-2) at West Lafayette, Ind.

No. 10 Georgia 84, Georgia Southern 53 -- Sherill Baker scored 21 points to lead the Bulldogs (2-0) over the Eagles (1-1) at Statesboro, Ga.

No. 11 Minnesota 73, Drake 50 -- Janel McCarville scored 22 points and Shannon Schonrock had 20 to lead the Gophers (3-0) over the Bulldogs (0-2) at Des Moines, Iowa.

No. 13 North Carolina 75, Kentucky 59 -- LaTangela Atkinson scored 17 points and Nikita Bell had 16 to lead the Tar Heels (3-0) over the Wildcats (2-1) at Lexington, Ky.

No. 14 Ohio State 70, North Carolina Wilmington 42 -- Caity Matter scored 20 points to lead the Buckeyes (3-0) over the Seahawks (0-2) at Columbus, Ohio.

No. 16 UC Santa Barbara 75, No. 21 Arizona 65 -- Lindsay Taylor scored 23 points and had eight rebounds to lead the Gauchos (3-1) to a victory over the Wildcats (1-1) at Santa Barbara, their 26th in a row at home.

No. 24 Oregon 73, Gonzaga 57 -- Andrea Bills had 16 points and eight rebounds to spark the Ducks (3-0) over the Bulldogs (1-2) at Spokane, Wash. Oregon point guard Corrie Mizusawa tied the school record with 14 assists.

No. 25 Auburn 67, Youngstown State 36 -- Le’Coe Willingham and Nitasha Brown scored 11 points apiece to lead the Tigers (3-1) over the Penguins (1-1) at Auburn, Ala.
