Entertainment group sounds off

Nearly four dozen members of the entertainment industry lent their names to a “Vote No on the Recall” ad appearing in the trade paper Variety on Friday.

Underwritten by venture capital executive Dan Adler, the list included studio executives Jeffrey Katzenberg, Amy Pascal and Sherry Lansing, directors Gary Ross, Rob Reiner and Ed Zwick, and actors Jack Nicholson, Annette Bening and Barbra Streisand.

First broached last week, the idea for the ad gathered steam with the publication of recent polls showing Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger leading in the California governor’s race.

“This was a way of showing that the entertainment industry is still largely Democratic and isn’t lining up behind Schwarzenegger just because he’s an actor,” said Donna Bojarsky, a public policy consultant who works with people in the show business arena. “We’re still aligned with our causes. This was a way of making a statement -- and getting out the vote.”
