A Ventura police officer suffered minor injuries after being attacked by a wanted parolee whom the officer and his partner were trying to arrest, authorities said Saturday.
Officers Robert Ortiz and Gil Pusen were chasing Juan Piceno, 24, in the 300 block of Prospect Street about 2 p.m. Friday when Piceno ripped Ortiz’s gun and holster from his belt, authorities said. The officers then handcuffed Piceno and retrieved Ortiz’s gun. During the chase, Piceno had tossed a loaded gun into some bushes, officers said.
Ortiz was treated at a local hospital and released.
Piceno was jailed without bail on suspicion of an unspecified parole violation, resisting arrest, gun possession and battery on a police officer.
