Accused Killer Will Not Face Death

A Muscoy woman charged with killing a trailer park manager who was going to testify against her in a burglary and assault case will not face the death penalty if convicted, San Bernardino County Dist. Atty. Michael Ramos decided Wednesday.

Linda Fill, 42, was eligible for the death penalty for allegedly slaying a witness, but that sentence will not be pursued because of legal issues and witness problems, said county prosecutor David Whitney.

If convicted, Fill could receive life in prison without parole.

Fill allegedly killed Roberta Robinson, 54, and wounded Rebecca Ramirez, 47, at the Westways Mobile Park in the 2200 block of Darby Street on Aug. 5. Robinson was shot five times in the head with a sawed-off, .22-caliber shotgun, Whitney said. Ramirez was shot in the jaw.

Robinson was going to testify against Fill, who was accused of stealing from and assaulting a neighbor at the trailer park on Oct. 1, 2002.

Fill allegedly fled and was arrested three days later after leading police on a high-speed chase in Visalia. Whitney said Fill confessed to killing Robinson in an Aug. 10 conversation with a San Bernardino County sheriff’s investigator.

Her pretrial hearing is scheduled for Oct. 16.
