Speaking out on silent movie site

Share

I view the news “Hollywood Silent Movie Site for Sale” (Hot Property, Sept. 28) with mixed emotions.

The comedy of Laurel and Hardy, Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd, as well as lesser-knowns such as Charley Chase, Ben Turpin and Harry Langdon, might never be remembered but for the grace of the famed Silent Movie Theater, since 1942 as noted a landmark on Fairfax Avenue as Canter’s and the Farmers Market.

I respect the third owner, Charlie Lustman, who brought it back to life in 1999 and said he’ll sell only if he gets what he thinks is a buyer who cares as much as he does about silent films. Let’s hope it’ll be around for many more years.
