Comforted by TV in a strange city

Regarding “If the TV Offerings Are Good Enough, Sightseeing Can Wait” [Her World, Oct. 5]: My wife and I just finished our fourth three-month trip to Europe.
Usually there is so much to do and see that we rarely watch TV. But nearing the end of our recent trip through Scandinavia, I was feeling a little homesick after reaching our hotel in Ystad, Sweden.
At midnight, after the usual 10 minutes figuring out the TV remote, I happened upon the beginning of a Frank Sinatra movie broadcast in English. I watched the whole thing with a great feeling of being home again, and when it was over I realized I had seen it before. That didn’t matter: The movie gave me enough feeling of home that I was excited about traveling again. Sometimes TV can be therapeutic.
