Ohio State suspended linebacker Robert Reynolds for one game Monday for jamming his fingers into the throat of Wisconsin quarterback Jim Sorgi and choking him.

Reynolds will not play in the No. 8-ranked Buckeyes’ homecoming game Saturday against No. 9 Iowa.

Sorgi said he had difficulty talking and breathing after the injury in the third quarter of Wisconsin’s 17-10 victory Saturday night at Madison, Wis. He said he couldn’t bark out the signals loud enough to be heard, keeping him from going back into the game.

Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany said Reynolds’ actions “have no place in our game.”

Sorgi said he accepted an apology Reynolds made to him by telephone Sunday.

“I know how things get during the game, and I know how things can happen,” he said. “He made a mistake. It’s a sign of a man when you can make a mistake like that and call and apologize for it.”

Sorgi said he expects to practice this week and play Saturday when the No. 14 Badgers play host to No. 13 Purdue.

Outside of having someone else handle the snap count during practice this week to give Sorgi’s voice a rest, Wisconsin Coach Barry Alvarez said he didn’t expect any lingering effects on his quarterback.

Miami receiver Roscoe Parrish was released from a hospital in Tallahassee, Fla., two days after a hard hit caused internal bleeding.

Parrish left Saturday’s game against Florida State in the second quarter after cornerback Stanford Samuels knocked him to the ground on a crossing route.

“Roscoe feels a lot better,” Coach Larry Coker said. “He’s pretty sore [but] we feel very good about his complete recovery.”

Army Coach Todd Berry was fired with the team mired in an eight-game losing streak. Berry had a 5-35 record.

Army (0-6) has one victory in its last 17 games. John Mumford, the defensive line coach the last four seasons, was appointed interim coach.
