From Times Wire Reports

Community leaders and San Diego’s police chief appealed for calm after police cars were pelted by rocks and bottles near the spot where an officer fatally shot a wanted parolee.

Chief Bill Lansdowne promised a “thorough and complete investigation” into the fatal officer-involved shooting, the first since he took over the department in August.

Billy Venable, 26, was shot Saturday after police stopped the driver of a car in which he was a passenger for a traffic violation. Police Capt. Mike McCulloch said Venable fought with Officers James Hunter, 31, and Christopher Leahy, 23, and tried to remove Leahy’s service weapon from its holster.
