From Staff and Wire Reports

A 20-year-old parolee who allegedly pointed a gun at two sheriff’s deputies early Saturday escaped injury when a bullet fired by one of the deputies bounced off the suspect’s cell phone, authorities said.

The deputies had noticed Kristian Amacker walking with a handgun allegedly tucked into his waistband and chased him until his path was blocked by a closed gate in the 1000 block of West Palmer Street, authorities said.

Gun in hand, Amacker allegedly turned toward the deputies, who opened fire, authorities said. One bullet hit Amacker in his left pant leg, but was deflected by a cell phone.
