Soldiers Trade In Weapons for Work

Afghan soldiers handed over Kalashnikov rifles under a long-awaited U.N.-sponsored program to disarm 100,000 troops. Starting in the northern province of Kunduz, the effort encourages soldiers to exchange weapons for work.
About 490 weapons were registered at a military base in Kunduz. The goal is to take weapons from fighters loyal to warlords.
