From Staff and Wire Reports

The signatures of nearly 12,000 people opposed to Santa Rosa’s ban on fireworks have been turned in, in an effort to force a vote on the issue.

The move could spawn one of the city’s most expensive election battles, with the fireworks industry and nonprofit groups profiting from fireworks sales battling the Fire Department and community leaders concerned about fire safety.

Foes of the ban gathered 11,856 signatures.
