Rather than shift into reruns, as is normally done when the November ratings sweeps are over, ABC said Wednesday it plans to replace “NYPD Blue” in December and January with a new crime drama called “Line of Fire.” “NYPD Blue” will return to the 10 p.m. Tuesday slot with new episodes in February.

“Line of Fire,” from writer-producer Rod Lurie, is about the battle between FBI agents and an organized crime family. The cast includes David Paymer, Leslie Bibb and Anson Mount.
