Lawmakers Cancel Trip to N. Korean Arms Site

Rep. Curt Weldon (R-Pa.) said opposition from the White House has caused him to scrub plans to lead a group of U.S. lawmakers to the site of North Korea’s nuclear weapons program.
“At the eleventh hour, the White House withdrew its support for our bipartisan visit,” he said.
A White House official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said President Bush had had good discussions on North Korea on his recent trip to Asia. To keep the focus on that, the official said, a congressional visit to North Korea “at this time would not be appropriate.”
