Junta Denies Suu Kyi Is on Hunger Strike
From Times Wire Reports
Myanmar’s military government dismissed a U.S. claim that opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi was on a hunger strike to protest her detention.
The State Department said Sunday that it was concerned for the health of Suu Kyi, saying she had started a hunger strike. The department did not explain how it got that information, and a senior member of Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy could not confirm the assertion.
Suu Kyi was arrested in May after her followers were attacked by government supporters.
