Hearing on Valley Bus Routes Set
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority will hold a public hearing in Van Nuys tonight to get feedback on proposals to cut three bus lines that serve the San Fernando Valley.
According to MTA staff members, the following changes are being considered:
Weekend and midday service from Monday to Friday on Line 96, which winds from Sherman Oaks through Burbank and Griffith Park to downtown Los Angeles, would be reduced from every 30 minutes to once an hour.
Weekend service on Line 167, which runs from Chatsworth to Studio City, would be cut.
And weekend and midday service from Monday to Friday would be canceled on Line 218, which runs between Studio City and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center via Laurel Canyon Boulevard.
The proposed changes are part of a cost-reduction effort that would affect more than 20 bus lines across Los Angeles County. Lines operated by contractors or those with few riders would be affected. If approved by the MTA board, the cuts would go into effect on or after Oct. 26.
The 6:30 p.m. hearing will be held at the Braude Center at 6262 Van Nuys Blvd.
