Blanton and Nygaard Take Title
Dain Blanton and Jeff Nygaard won the men’s title and undefeated Misty May and Kerri Walsh took the women’s title in the Assn. of Volleyball Professionals competition last weekend at Las Vegas.
Blanton and Nygaard continued their reign as the only AVP men’s team with multiple titles by defeating Scott Ayakatubby and Brian Lewis, 21-13, 21-19, in the final Saturday. Blanton and Nygaard have three titles this season, including the last two in the row.
Despite the loss, Ayakatubby and Lewis came away with the AVP overall season title.
In women’s competition, May and Walsh not only won the overall title, they were 39-0 for the season, an AVP tour record.
May and Walsh capped their performance with a 21-16, 21-13 victory over Holly McPeak and Elaine Youngs in the final Saturday.
It was the seventh title of the year for May and Walsh.

The AVP schedule concludes Sept. 19-21 at Home Depot Center in Carson with an Olympic qualifying tournament for the 2004 Athens Games.
