Man vs. pike: fish in control
It is the fish that will not die. U.S. Fish and Game officials have shocked, poisoned, netted, trapped and blown up the toothy northern pike, an illegal transplant to Lake Davis that has been feasting on the lake’s trout population.
But a progress report issued at a meeting last week in Portola was not encouraging. The pike are growing and trout catches dwindling. Next up? More chemicals, or the lake could be completely drained.
