Serial Killer Denied Parole for 6th Time
Juan Corona, the serial killer convicted in 1973 of hacking 25 Sutter County farm workers to death, was denied parole for the sixth time Tuesday by the state Board of Prison Terms.
After an hourlong hearing at Corcoran State Prison, a two-member panel of the board ordered Corona’s incarceration for at least five more years, the maximum allowed by law.
In denying parole, the commissioners cited the horrific nature of Corona’s crimes; his deteriorating mental condition; his lack of participation in self-help therapy programs; and the absence of a post-parole plan.
Corona, 69, who lives in Corcoran’s protective housing unit, did not attend the hearing.
A former farm labor contractor, Corona is serving 25 consecutive life terms for his crimes. The bodies of his victims were found in shallow graves in orchards and along the Feather River near Yuba City in 1971.
Corona was previously denied parole in 1998, 1993, 1990, 1987 and 1984.
